By using streaming and online video compression data technology, researchers were able to package 1.6 bits of data into each nucleotide, approaching the theoretical limit of 1.8. This may not sound like much, but scientists have shown that they can effectively store 215 PB of data in one gram of DNA.

The technology also has other advantages, such as high reliability, and the fact that DNA will never be outdated. Like other technologies, DNA can be stored for thousands of years and data can still be read afterwards.

However, this technology is currently facing a high cost threshold, which still requires thousands of dollars to store and retrieve just a few megabytes of data.
