The SKF mechanical seal is supplied to the user as a gland assembly for the ready-to-install device. A special retaining ring holds the outer surface of the seal ring together. This not only facilitates the device; it also protects the seal from damage. The retaining ring is behind the device. Save in place; provide additional protection for the sliding surface during initial operation. It will wear out slowly.
