Operators often lack important information, such as whether the working load or operating temperature of the assembled components is out of limits. Since fatigue cracks are difficult to detect, we recommend using new bolts (screws, nuts and washers) for safety and legal reasons.

Before reusing threaded fasteners, remember to visually inspect the threads and/or nuts for signs of damage or corrosion and inspect the coated fasteners for damage or wear. Screw in the new nut along the thread engagement length to verify that the thread is not permanently deformed. Check the screw section for signs of diameter reduction ("fine waist"). If there is a thin waist, the bolt has exceeded the yield strength.

Clean internal and external threads and all contact areas. The tightening conditions (such as torque value, tool type, lubricant type, etc.) should be the same or similar to the initial installation to ensure the same clamping force is achieved.

If the fastener is initially assembled without lubrication, the surface of the bearing surface and the thread will be broken when it is released, thereby increasing the coefficient of friction between these surfaces. Since the friction coefficient of these surfaces is increased, such as tightening according to the initial torque value, the clamping force is lowered. Subsequent secondary installations will gradually reduce the clamping force, resulting in low preload and many problems such as fatigue, shock and connection separation.
