It was learned from the Qujing Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government that the high-purity polysilicon project of Yunnan Aisin Silicon Technology Co., Ltd. was recently put up in Qujing.   base. After the completion of the first phase of the project, it can produce 3,000 tons of polysilicon per year, and achieve an annual output of 10,000 tons of polysilicon in three years. The comprehensive sales revenue will reach 10 billion yuan, making it the largest polysilicon project in Asia.
Polycrystalline silicon wafers account for 80% of the cost of solar cells. In the solar industry, there is a saying that "the silicon is the best in the world." Our province has a wealth of high-quality silica, but previously only produced and exported metal silicon raw materials, and can not produce polysilicon products. After China exported the metal silicon with a purity of 98% at the price of 1 US dollar/kg, foreign companies purified it to 99.9999%, and then sold it to China at a price of 80-100 US dollars/kg, adding 80 to 100 times!
It is understood that polysilicon is extremely scarce in China, and most of it needs to rely on imports. According to the survey, China's demand for polysilicon in 2005 was 3,800 tons, while in 2004 China's production of polysilicon was only 60 tons.
