Pellet feed durability index
PDI (Pellet Durability Index) is one of the most important indicators reflecting the quality of pellet feed. It is a measure of the relative ability of pellets to resist breakage during transport and handling. The meaning is that the cooled and sieved pellet feed sample is placed in a special rotary box for a certain period of time, simulating the feed transport and handling process, after the sample is turned over, the sieve is divided, and finally the sieve and the total amount are calculated. The ratio is the durability index of the pellet feed. The larger the PDI, the stronger the particle crushing resistance, the better the particle quality and the higher the utilization rate. The procedure was initiated by the Department of Grain Science and Technology of the University of Kansas, USA, and was adopted by the American Agricultural Engineering Association and gradually recognized by the world's feed industry.
This index of China is expressed by the pulverization rate. The operation principle is also the method of using the rotary box. The ratio of the fine powder and the total amount is taken as the pulverization rate value, and the value is the reciprocal of PDI, indicating the pulverization rate value. The larger the particle's resistance to breakage, the worse the particle quality and the lower its utilization.
