German researchers found three new breeds of water bear worms
Xinhuanet Berlin, July 6th (by the reporter Zhou Gufeng) University of Stuttgart, Germany, issued a communique on the 6th, saying that the researchers and researchers from the University of Würzburg in Germany used the “compensated base change†analysis to find and confirm 3 Water bear worms new species.
The water bear worms are only 0.2 to 1 mm in length and resemble worms. They have pairs of feet and usually live in fresh water, moist soil and bryophytes, and they can survive in extremely dry or cold environments for a long time. Almost a thousand species of water bears have been found so far. Some species of water bears are very similar to each other, and they are difficult to distinguish from their appearance.
German researchers found some water-bottle worms in the Palau Pacific, near Fairbanks in northern Alaska, and Kenya. By using a "compensated base change" assay with a 93% success rate for species discrimination, the researchers found differences in the ribosomal DNA of these water-bearing urchins, confirming that they are all new species of waterflies.
According to experts, when the living environment gradually becomes dehydrated, dry, and cold, the back stratum corneum of the water-bearing worms will contract and the body will collapse into a barrel, which will stop the metabolism and resist the harm caused by the long-term extreme environment. When the external environment improves, the water bear worm can miraculously "resurrect." Researchers believe that these characteristics of water hymenoptera have research and utilization value in biomedicine and food preservation.
