Schmid's complete line solution using 18% polysilicon production becomes possible

APCVD is a factor in the successful production of PERC batteries

Report from Freudentstadt: The Schmid Group develops technology based on the latest market demand from battery manufacturers. With the development of the 5500 Series APCVD transmission process furnace, a mature system for industrial mass production of high-efficiency batteries has been prepared for specific applications, especially for doped glass in the semiconductor industry.

Dr. Christian Buchner, Vice President of Photovoltaic Division of Schmid Group, believes that the Schmid Group's accurate positioning meets the latest needs from Chinese customers. "After consulting the Chinese government's proposal on solar energy development, we once again have the confidence to believe that in the short and medium term, only high-quality batteries with a production efficiency of more than 20% can be obtained only after investing in new technology equipment. Our complete line solution guarantees 18% polycrystalline and 20% efficiency in single crystal. The investment is ready, but only with the support of efficient technology can we ensure the high efficiency of the above battery production."

Regarding the PERC production process, Schmid is the only equipment supplier that can provide all of the processes individually. The Schmid PERC process includes backside cleaning, APCVD coating, and laser ablation on the backside of the coating. All equipment can be simply integrated into the customer's existing production lines and provide the lowest manufacturing costs in the market. According to the calculations, the Schmid Group's APCVD technology for passivation and overlay films is 40-50% lower than ALD and PECVD processes. The PERC battery consists of crystalline silicon. For the backside passivation, Schmid uses APCVD to plate the aluminum oxide layer on the silicon wafer; the backside has two layers of cover film also prepared by APCVD technology. Depending on the quality of the different silicon wafers, Schmid technology can be used to obtain CZ monocrystalline silicon PERC cells with an average efficiency of 20%-20.5%, and 18-18.5% polycrystalline silicon PERC cells.
