Taobao was deceived to buy furniture

Ms. Liu photographed several solid wood furniture on Taobao and signed an agreement to purchase it in the furniture company ’s physical store. In April 2010, Ms. Liu saw a furniture sales webpage of a Shanghai furniture company on Taobao.com and found several of them. In May 2010, she ordered furniture such as beds, bedside tables and dining tables from the furniture company. The price is 40,000 yuan. The furniture company website advertises that the main material of the furniture purchased by the plaintiff is solid wood birch, and the facing material is solid wood leather. However, after the furniture was delivered to her home, Ms. Liu found that some of the carvings on the furniture had fallen off. The furniture was not solid wood through the falling part. Ms. Liu asked the furniture company to solve it. The furniture company only pulled away the sofa with damaged fabric and ignored the non-solid wood furniture. Ms. Liu sued the furniture company to the court and doubled her claim.

The furniture company believes that Ms. Liu's understanding of solid wood furniture is wrong. At the time, the company had explained to Ms. Liu that she sold wood-wood furniture, which included solid wood, but not all solid wood. The defendant advertised online that the main material is solid wood (birch) and the finish material is solid wood leather finish, and there is no promise that the furniture is all solid wood.

During the hearing of the case, Ms. Liu applied for an appraisal of the furniture. The appraisal conclusion pointed out that the main material of the furniture is solid birch and partly fiberboard.

After trial, the court held that the furniture company publicized and promised that the main material of the furniture was solid wood, but after inspection, not all of the main material was solid wood, which constituted fraud.
